Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) is the name given to the infotainment and navigation systems inside modern day Mercedes-Benz vehicles, it incorporates some of the latest technologies to provide and easy to use system that can be controlled by touch, voice or gestures.
The main idea is that you can concentrate on driving safely but still be able to communicate with the infotainment system.
When did MBUX first arrive?

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the usual candidate for the latest technology releases, but in the case of the MBUX system, MBUX actually arrived in the entry-level Mercedes-Benz A-CLass when it was revealed in 2018.
One of the main reasons was to get MBUX into the mainstream, with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class being one of the brands best sellers, it meant that more and more people could experience the benefits of MBUX.
MBUX in the vehicle
Depending which Mercedes-Bez model you decide to opt for will depend on the set-up, but the majority of the vehicles will comply with a main centrally located touchscreen along with a digital dashboard behind the steering wheel.
Screen sizes will differ from vehicle-to-vehicles, derivative-to-derivative. Recently Mercedes even released their Hyperscreens, this can be found in the Mercedes EQE and EQS.
Whilst many of the models feature landscape screens, many of the new ars such as the latest Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV have portrait screens which look super impressive.
Pro's to MBUX
Here are the advantages to MBUX:
User Configuration
Depending on the MBUX software version, you can create user profiles that can be saved and used from vehicle-to-vehicle. This can be your favourite DAB radio stations to seat adjustments.
Easy to Control
The MBUX system allows commands from touch, gestures or voice enabling you to change the majority of the features easily.
Wireless Smartphone Chargers
Depending on the make/model/derivative of the vehicle, it may include a QI certified wireless charger to enable cableless charging of your iPhone or Android device.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
We love to use both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it is an amazing extension to your smartphone enabling you to see navigational instructions from your Sat Nav apps, stream your favourite radio station or reply back to friends, family and colleagues. Many of ths vehicles include this as standard.
Change the look
As the displays are fully digital, you can choose from a number of different layouts including changing the design of the speedos. With deeper integration of Apple CarPlay in the future, this feature will be heavily expanded.
Augmented Satellite Navigation
With on-board cameras, some of the models can augment road signs over the top of live images of the road. This is extremely helpful when navigating roundabouts and complex junctions.
Cons to MBUX
Here are some of the negatives of MBUX:
Analogue Vs. Digital
With Digital Cockpits becoming the norm, many customers miss the easy-to-read dials that we were used to with analogue dashboards.
Voice Commands
Whilst it might seem a novel way of controlling MBUX, using voice commands can also be extremely frustrating, especially when the system cannot understand what you are telling it.
Complex
Whilst it is great that manufacturers are making huge advancements of their on-board infotainment systems, it can also be extremely difficult to find settings of various features without going through a series of menus.
