Volkswagen means ‘Peoples Car” in German. They also rank number 1 for spending the most amount of money on research and development than any other vehicle manufacturer.
Volkswagen was founded 28th May 1937 by the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (German Labour Front) who wanted to supply a car to the German people that was affordable, as in that time only 1 in 50 people actually owned a car.
VW has become a large international corporation from when it started in 1937 and has expanded over the years to worldwide markets and countries.
