McLaren Automotive is a British Manufacturer of High Perfromance Cars, established in 1989 as a producer of Supercars based on Formula One technology. The company works closely with the McLaren F1 team and is a spinoff from McLaren Group.
McLaren’s first official car was the McLaren F1, a vehicle that would accelerate from 0-60mph in 3 seconds, it was a 3 seater Sports cars and the drivers seat is situated in the middle. The 6l V12 engine produces 618bhp and was actually designed and built by BMW. The car held the record for the fastest production car until 2005, at 242.97 mph.
In 1999. McLaren agreed to design and manufacture the SLR in conjunction with Mercedes, DaimlerChrysler at the time was a majority shareholder as well as the engine supplier to the Team McLaren racing team. The McLaren SLR had a 5.5l Supercharged V8 engine that produced 626bhp and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. On the 722 Edition, this was increased to 650bhp with a top speed of 340km/h.
McLaren developed the MP4-12C, their 2nd production car since the McLaren F1. It is powered by the McLaren M838T 3.8 litre V8 Twin Turbo engine and married with a Carbon Fibre Chassis. The 12C, as McLaren now like it to be known, has a number of F1 inspired technology like brake steer, seven speed seamless shift dual clutch gearbox with Pre-cog. Pre-cog is a system where you can half pull the steering paddle, to tell the gearbox you are ready to upshift, when ready fully pull and the gear drops in.
There are a number of other cars McLaren has developed including the P1 and the 650s, with the latter sitting between the 12C and the P1.
