Alfa Romeo was founded in Milan on the 24th June 1910, the company has been involved in motor racing since 1911 and has a reputation of making expensive sprts cars. Since 1986 it has been part of the Fiat Group, then 2007 Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A.
Alfa Romeo has been successful in many different categories of motorsport including Grand Prix Motor Racing, Formula One, Sportscar Racing, Touring Car Racing and Rallies. It has competed both as a constructor and an engine supplier.
Over the years, Alfa Romeo has introduced many innovations over the years and the company has been amongst the first users of new technologies including the double overhead cam, which was first seen in the Alf Romeo 6C 1500 Sport. They also introduced the Variable Valve Timing which was seen in the Alfa Romeo Spider in 1980, Electronic Varible Valve Timing was introduced in the Aletta.
The Alfa Romeo 156 was also the worlds 1st car to use a Common Rail Diesel Engine.
Alfa Romeo over the years have scaled back production to just the Mito and the Guiletta models, although the Alfa Romeo 4C is due to be launched soon and is already a hit with a number of enquiries already coming through the Cocoon Vehicles Office.
