It’s been announced this week that several of the large auto manufacturers are to come together to increase the amount of charging points available across Europe.
With many companies now looking towards the longer term future, the diminishing amount of fossil fuels and the threat of climate change means that we could all be forced to use electric cars at some point in the future.
An increasing number of car firms recognise this need for change and want to provide drivers the convenience of being able to recharge more readily as the switch to electric vehicles becomes more popular.
BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen Group which includes Audi and Porsche, have stated that they will build 400 charging sites. These sites will include super fast charging points (with speeds up to 350KW) and will be located on major routes initially. It’s bad news for Tesla drivers however as the charging points that are to be installed aren’t compatible with the Tesla.
Installation of these charging points is to begin next year (2017) with the car companies involved stating their aim being to provide users of electric cars the chance for long-range travel.
