Think fast, think Ferrari, think Lamborghini, think McLaren. Yes, they’re all quick but none of them are as quick as the new Tesla Model S, which has just taken the crown for the world’s quickest production car.
The Tesla Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode is now the fastest accelerating production car ever produced that can be purchased new. Both the Porsche 918 Spyder and the LeFerrari were limited run, million dollar cars but cannot be purchased new. The Tesla Model 2 P100D Ludicrous can go from 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds!
The new Tesla however isn’t your typical sports car. When we think ‘sports’ we think 2 seats and no room for more than a few small shopping bags but Tesla broke the mould with their 4-door, space for 5 adults and 2 children, all-wheel drive which even has room for a stash of shopping bags. Whether the ‘family’ look of this vehicle will put off those looking to turn heads is a question that remains to be answered but if you’ve stepped into family life but aren’t entirely ready to leave your speedy days behind you then this may be just the car for you!
What is most astonishing about the Tesla however, is the fact that it is fully electric. At the heart of this car is a 100kWh battery which gives a range of an estimated 315 miles, making it the first car to go beyond 300 miles, and the longest range production by an electric vehicle so far.
Tesla have offered those with the P90D Ludicrous on order, who haven’t yet taken delivery, the chance to upgrade their 100kWh pack for $10,000 and existing owners can upgrade for $20,000 (the extra $10,000 covers recycling the 90kWh pack, just incase you were wondering!).
Although the Tesla P100D Ludicrous is going to be an expensive car, Tesla have announced that every sale helps fund the smaller and much more affordable Model 3, without the sales of the Model S and X there just wouldn’t be the budget to develop the more affordable car of the range.
