Welcome to Project Jimny!
This is a collaboration between Cocoon Vehicles and a mutual customer to purchase and take Suzuki Jimny LCV’s and convert them for occasional rear passenger use, but not only that, we wanted to improve on what is already a really fun and compact car.
Suzuki Jimny Tech Spec
The latest model of the Suzuki Jimny was launched in 2018, it is believed that Fifth Gear presenter Jonny Smith as one of the first people in the UK to receive the latest model and he did some really cool modifications to the model, which was mainly driven by his wife.
Due to EU CO2 emission restrictions, Suzuki temporarily stopped selling the Jimny in the UK, but some bright spark realised that if they classed it as a commercial vehicle (LCV) they could again sell it in the UK. The downside being that it is now only available as a 2-seater.
The little Jimny has a 1.5 petrol engine under the bonnet which produces 99bhp, it is mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox and has a top speed of 90mph. It is taxed as a commercial vehicle so currently costs £335 per year.
The car is small when compared to other SUV’s, with a length of 3,645mm, width of 1,645mm and a height of 1,720mm.
Project Jimny
The Suzuki Jimny is a great blank canvas and their are accessories, mods and other things you can do to this car to make it different to anything else on the road, it is great that you can personalise this car to suit your personal tastes and requirements.
The car was purchased at the recently opened Ron Brooks Suzuki dealership, it was a stock car and salesman Shaan Singh helped us with all of the relevant paperwork to get this registered on a 24 plate.
We’ve got a list of modifications that we will be carrying out to this vehicle, please see below:
Proposed Modifications
- Rear-Seat Conversion which will include 2x inertia seatbelts and ISOFIX fittings, with the removal of the bulkhead and flat back.
- Sound proofing of the vehicle at the rear in the base, sides and roof lining to improve the road noise
- Kenwood Head Unit which will replace the Suzuki Bluetooth head unit, this will allow for Wireless Apple CarPlay, DAB Digital Radio, Android Auto.
- Reversing Camera, to integrate into the Kenwood Unit
- Rear Speaker Addition
- Pre-wiring for Dashcam
- Privacy Glass to the rear side windows and the rear window.
- Black wrap on the roof to give it a contrast roof appearance
There are hundreds of after-market accessories that are available for the Jimny, these include wheel kits, accessories to make it look like a Mini G-Wagen or Ford Bronco, new and/or additional cup holders, leather accessories and more.
