We recently spent a few days with the latest model finished in Thunder, and it reminded us why this car remains such a strong all-rounder.

The interior quality is one of the first things you notice. The fit and finish feel very close to Volvo standards — which makes sense given the connection — and the materials give the car a very solid, premium feel.
First Impressions – Familiar but Still Impressive
We have had a Polestar 2 on test before and thoroughly enjoyed it, so we were keen to try the latest version again.
After visiting the Polestar showroom at Meadowhall in Sheffield previously, we knew what to expect in terms of design and layout, but the Prime specification adds plenty of gadgets and technology to keep things interesting.
The car feels very well built, very Scandinavian in design, and it has that reassuring quality feel that Volvo owners will recognise straight away.
Our Drive – Belper to Gatwick and Back
Our vehicle was dropped off in Belper in the morning, and the first thing we did was park it on the local EV charging stand to give it a full charge before a longer journey later that day.
In the evening we had to head down to Surrey for a meeting with a new client, so this gave us the perfect opportunity to test the Polestar properly.
We drove straight down the M1, only slowing for the usual traffic around the lower section and the M25 as we passed Heathrow Airport, before arriving at the Hilton near Gatwick.
The drive down was effortless.
The built-in navigation uses Google Maps, which is one of the best systems available in any car. It is clear, accurate and easy to follow, and it integrates perfectly with the car’s range calculations.
One small disappointment was Apple CarPlay. I expected wireless CarPlay to work on this model, but I could only get it to connect using a cable.
Charging and Range – Very Impressive Real-World Performance
The next morning we stopped at GridServe for a top-up charge while enjoying a Costa Coffee before heading to meet the client.
The meeting was around 10 miles from Gatwick, taking us along some winding roads where the Polestar handled comfortably with no issues at all.
After the meeting, we headed back up the motorway towards Derbyshire.
I was keeping an eye on the range, and by the time we reached Leicester Forest East, the battery was getting low. The charger there was unfortunately out of order, so we decided to push on and see how accurate the range estimate really was.
We made it back home with around 5% battery remaining, which was reassuring.
The car’s range felt very honest, which is not always the case with electric cars. Watching the range and the distance remaining, the numbers stayed very close to each other throughout the journey.
Over the full trip, we covered a huge distance with very little charging, which shows just how efficient this version of the Polestar 2 can be.
Everyday Driving – Easy to Live With
Over the next few days we used the car for normal driving, including school runs, local trips and a drive into the Peak District.
It is very easy to live with.
There is plenty of storage, the rear seats easily fit two children with car seats, and the boot space is more than enough for everyday use.
On twisty roads in the Peaks, the car felt planted and secure. Being rear-wheel drive, it delivers power smoothly without slipping, and it holds corners very well for a car of this size.
It really does feel like it sits somewhere between a comfortable saloon and a sporty fastback.
