New Cars coming in 2014
We all love new cars in the Cocoon Vehicles office, so we thought we would list some of our favorite that are due to appear in the back end of this year.
Audi A1 Facelift
Whilst we all love the Audi A1 in this office, they really do need to dump some of the engine choices. Including the 1.6 TDi 105bhp, something that makes a lot of noise and doesn’t really take you anywhere. Yet the 1.4 TFSi paired with the S-Tronic is the best option by far. The new engine choices should make a big difference to an already, perfectly refined supermini.
Mini 5 door Hatchback
Productions has already started for the first ever, 5 door Mini Hatchback. Its a bit bigger than the standard 3 door, giving more rear leg room and a bigger boot. Mini have promised the same go-kart feel drive, same personalisation options as the standard 3 door hatchback, so we can’t see where they can go wrong. We all loved the Mini Clubman, even if it did have the suicide door on the wrong side.
The original Renault Twingo was never available for sale over here in the UK, but occasionally you were lucky enough to get one as a hire car in France. A few imports made their way over to Blighty, but these were all left hand drive. Renault’s latest guise of the Renault Twingo, due out in Autumn looks more like a Fiat 500, but they have done a great job. Included in the engine bay is the brilliant 900cc turbocharged engine from the Clio, we reckon this will be a great Supermini.
Mercedes C Class Estate
The new Mercedes C Class Saloon looks absolutely amazing, more or less a Mini S-Class, we love the technology, we love the seats and the engines are fantastic. When the estate comes along, we hope that it beats the 3 series tourer into the ground providing a bit more boot space and rear leg room. We’d definitely go for the C250 version.
If anyone should make electric cars, it should be Volkswagen. We don’t need silly futuristic designs, we just need a car that we already love, with the electric powertrain already built in. And thats what Volkswagen have done and we thing that will win a few additional owners. But wait for the….
Yes, wait for this model! Based on the under pinnings of the Golf GTi, the GTE has 201 bhp from a Petrol/Electric combo. Under the bonnet is a 1.4 lite petrol engine to give a quoted range of 580 miles, VW reckon 188mpg with Urabn at around 150mpg. Its pretty quick also, with a 0-62 time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 138mph. The interior is based on the Gti, except the red is swapped for blue. We love it and we all want one here in the office.
We never got to drive the old Audi Rs3, but it didn’t stop the Cocoon team respecting what it was and what it did! In a straight line it was quicker than the Audi R8, from a medium sized hatchback! The new model due the back end of this year, will boast somewhere in the region of 360bhp, coming from the 2.5 litre turbocharged engine that Audi reckons could actually handle 520bhp. Watch this space, we do want one!
Range Rover Sport SVR
The Range Rover Sport has always been a popular choice on our Short Term Leasing fleet, with contracts going right back to 2007 when Cocoon was first born. The recent relaunch of the Range Rover Sport hasn’t gone a miss, with customers enquiring at least once a day for this popular vehicle. Even our accountant is on his 2nd RRS in 6 months! The SVR will be the world’s fastest 4×4, with a supercharged 5.0 V8 negine producing 543bhp and 502 lb ft of torque. 0 to 60mph would be just 4.5 seconds taking this beast to a limited 162mph.
Mercedes S Class Cabriolet
One of our short term customers is already waiting for his long term Mercedes S Class Coupe, and Mercedes have definitely got their recipe right with that combo. Now the Cabriolet is on the cards, the luxury S class will take this brand on par with the likes of the Bentley Continental GTC, although we still know which marque we’d prefer. Even so, this S class will be popular and will even be 4 door!
BMW 7 Series
We have had a few BMW 7 series on our Short Term Fleet, all as M Sport’s and all 730d’s. As the author of this blog post, I’ve got to say that I have never been impressed and would much prefer the 5 series, but if this refresh is as good as the BMW x5 M50d that I had for the weekend, then it will blow my socks off! Built on a new platform and starting with a 730d SE, this car will be a big improvement on the old version.
And there we have it….
And there we have it, a few of the 2014 cars that will make the headlines. Although electric powered cars are a long way off, we will see a large number of manufacturers introducing Hybrid powerplants, and the Golf GTE is our favourite here in the Cocoon office. Should you wish to be quoted on any of the models above, please give us a call on 01332 290173.
