The prestige brand Maybach marque has been applied to the Mercedes-Benz SL, creating the most desirable and expensive roadster ever. This week it has been the Monterey Car Week in California. The Mercedes-Maybach SL represents the very best in Luxury for Daimler AG and will also join a few other vehicles including the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach GLS and the all-electric Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.

Maybach is a luxury car brand which is owned and part of Mercedes-Benz AG, the company was originally founded by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl Maybach in 1909. In 1960 the company was aquired by Daimler-Benz.
From 2021, Daimler offers these ultra-luxury editions from its top-tier products, this includes the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, The Mercedes Benz EQS SUV, Mercedes-Benz GLS and now the Mercedes-Benz SL.
Back to the Mercedes-Maybach SL Roadster
Maybach have really gone to town with the design of their Ultra-Luxury SL Roadster, starting with the interior the car is fitted with bespoke front and rear bumpers mated with high-contrast chrome trims. The bonnet has unique stripes running up it’s length and their are brighter elements surrounding the lower bumper, exhaust outlets and the diffuser.
The front grille is also unique to the Mercedes-Maybach SL and features illuminated features. Mounted between new ‘Digital Light” LED Headlights that feature rose-gold elements, a very perfect touch.
Heading towards the wheels and you can choose between 2 different 21″ alloy wheels. Multi-spoke or five-hole designs are available.
Internally, the Mercedes SL is a strict two-seater, so no need to worry about the crumbs created by the kids. The space where the 2 seats would normally be positioned is taken up by what is being called by other media outlets ‘double-bubble’ cowling, something that reminds us of some of the classic Mercedes-Benz models that have been and gone.
The seats are wrapped in Crystal White Nappa Leather, seat-backs are galvanised silver.
The engine is the one we’re used to on the standard Mercedes-Benz SL 63, this is the AMG twin-turbocharged 4l V8. It produces 577bhp and power is passed to all four wheels. The powertrain and suspension has been modified by the Maybach team, more towards comfort than sporty.
Pricing has not been released in the UK but with the Maybach badge, it will be over the £200k mark.
