Polestar

Polestar is a Swedish electric performance car brand with its origins in motorsport. It began in 1996 as Flash Engineering, a racing team competing with Volvos. The performance division evolved into Polestar Racing and later Polestar Performance, which was acquired by Volvo Cars in 2015.

Today, Polestar operates as an independent brand with its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. While closely connected to Volvo and its parent company Geely, Polestar develops its own range of vehicles and technologies. Vehicle manufacturing takes place primarily in China, with future models planned for production in Europe as well.

Model History

• Polestar 1 (2017) – a luxury 2+2 coupé with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, inspired by a Volvo concept car. Produced in limited numbers.
• Polestar 2 (2019) – a fully battery-electric vehicle (BEV), built on the CMA platform. Production began in 2020 in Luqiao, China, and it continues to be a core model in the Polestar range.
• Polestar 3 – an all-electric performance SUV, designed for global markets, with production based in China and the United States.
• Polestar 4 – a dynamic electric SUV coupé with a focus on aerodynamics and interior innovation.
• Polestar 5 – an upcoming four-door grand tourer, based on the Precept concept, aiming to showcase advanced design and sustainable materials.
• Polestar 6 – an electric roadster planned for production, continuing the brand’s performance and design focus.

Current Position

Polestar continues to expand its global presence, with a growing line-up of fully electric vehicles and an emphasis on performance, technology, and sustainability. The brand’s strategy is to establish itself as a leader in premium electric mobility, while maintaining close collaboration with Volvo and Geely on shared technology platforms and manufacturing.
