Audi is a German Vehicle Manufacturer that is based in Ingolstadt in Germany. Audi have 9 production facilities worldwide including Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm in Germany, Aurangabad in India, Bratislava in Slovakia, Brussels in Belgium, Changchun in China, Gyor in Hungary, Jakarta in Indonesia and Martorell in Spain.
Audi is owned by the Volkswagen Group since 1966, VW relaunched the Audi Brand in 1965 with the introduction of the Audi F103 Series. The company logo is based on the Latin translation of the founder, August Horch, Horch is “Listen” in German, which becomes “Audi” in Latin. The four rings of the Audi logo represents the four car companies that joined forces to create Audi previous company, Auto Union.
Audi’s slogan is Vorsprung Durch Technik which translates as Advancement through Technology, Audi is a member of the German Big 3 luxury car makers.
Jorg Bensinger announced a proposal to develop a four wheel drive system, this was to be used in a performance car and rally racing car. The performance car launched in 1980 and named the Audi Quattro, it was a turbocharged coupe which was also Germany’s first large scale production of a permanent all wheel drive system, through a centre differential. This design was a great success in rallying, with prominent wins. The car was also given a boost in the late 2000’s thanks to the TV series Ashes to Ashes.
Audi is also know for its fully galvanised bodies, this prevents corrosion. It was the first mass market vehicle to do this, following the introduction of the process by Porsche. The body has a coating of zinc which is extremely effective in preventing rust, Audi currently provides a 12 year warranty against corrosion perforation.
The current Audi line up consists of Small Hatchbacks such as the Audi A1 up to the full size executive car that is the Audi A8, they also do a range of Coupe’s and SUV’s. Audi has also had a good success of its Audi R8 model thats available in a 4.2 or a 5.2 litre engine.
