About the Lotus Emira
The Lotus Emira is the first all-new car for the manufacturer in a lot of years, we’ve love the Exige and the Elise but they were left behind a long time ago. Lotus needed to react in a postive way to regain their place in the world of Sports Cars. Auto Express says “it makes a decent fist of being Britain’s alternative to the Porsche 718 Cayman”
Offering the Lotus Emira with 2 engine choices, the inline-four turbocharged engine producing 360bhp or the V6 Supercharged engine offering 400bhp. In terms of performance, there isn’t much between them.
Today we’re going to concentrate on the 2.0l version, as this is what we have available on our 12-month car leases. For those who love the Mercedes-Benz A 45 S, this engine already sets records in terms of performance, so when it is dropped into a car that weighs with around 1,450kg it makes a huge difference.
Internals
Those who have driven older generation Lotus cars, will recognise the very basic but rigid interior, the infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has a KEF stereo and this is all controlled from a centre-mounted 10.25″ touchscreen.
Now I know we have said that the interior is basic, this is only meant in the sense that the car is a driver’s car. The trim, seats and panels feel premium, you won’t be disappointed.
Engine and Gearbox
Let’s touch on the engine again, the Emira i4 is the Mercedes-AMG unit. It produces 430Nm of torque and 360bhp. It will take you to 62mph from a standing start in 4.3 seconds.
The engine is amted by the eight-speed double-clutch geerbox and the shifts are super quick and give a lovely pop when they drop to the next ratio. Just make sure you drive hard in Sport mode to get those really beautiful exhaust gargles.
