Since 2014 Hyundai and Kia have been using heat pumps in their electric vehicles, starting with the Kia Soul EV. From that vehicle these popular brands have been improving the heat pump to attempt to achieve high energy consumption efficency.
Their new Heat Pump is extremely clever technology and collects heat waste from a variety of components including the motors, inverters, on-board chargers, battery pack and the slow charger.
Essentially, this heat pump can take heat sources from anything that produces it!
The technology helps protect the battery in low temperature environments and loss of battery range is minimal by utilising this new pump design.
