Clean Air Certificate Required when Driving in France

french flag

Earlier this year, in February, France introduced a new ‘Clean Air’ windscreen sticker which has become a legal requirement in 3 of the country’s major cities. For those who currently visit or motor in Paris, Lyon and Grenoble, the windscreen sticker will be required to identify the vehicle’s emission levels.

The scheme will be expanded to more towns and cities in the future but for now, if you’re going to be driving in either Paris, Lyon or Grenoble, you’ll need to ensure your vehicle is fitted with the new sticker.

The sticker is known as a Crit’Air vignette and costs just £3.20. If a vehicle fails to display the sticker, then there is a penalty of an on-the-spot fine of up to £117.

If you require one of these stickers you can purchase them from the official Crit’Air website but it’s important to keep in mind that the sticker can take up to 6 weeks to be delivered therefore factoring in this timeframe is important.

All foreign-registered vehicles must display this sticker so if you’re planning to travel ensure that you don’t end up with a fine by applying in plenty of time and then displaying the sticker in your car windscreen.
