Car use declined by 30%
The Department for Transport (DfT) has released figures noting that car use has declined by 30% during the 2nd lockdown.
Weekend driving has also seen a decline of 40% since travel restrictions were introduced at the beginning of November 2020.
As of today, people in England are required to stay at home and only travel for essential needs, this includes going to work, education or accessing vital public services.
1st Lockdown vs. 2nd Lockdown
Traffic hasn’t fallen as dramatically as it did during the first lockdown, with far more cars on the road during the current lockdown.
The major contributing factors to this include:
- Schools were closed the first time around
- More people were encouraged to work from home, where possible.
- Confusing restrictions across different parts of the UK
With a tougher new 3-tier system in the works by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, no-one as yet can guess what the situation will be to vehicles on the roads.
