2017 began with a record number of new car registrations in the first quarter, with a 6.2% increase on previous months. There were 820,016 new cars registered in the first three months, most of which (562,337) being in the month of March.
Much of this is thought to be because of the ease of getting car finance at present as well as the introduction of the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) which came into force on 1st April 2017. Under the new law, all cars that on UK roads, other than those with zero emissions will be subject to a flat rate of £140 VED.
The trend evolving from the statistics appears to show an increase in the demand for cars with the latest in low-emissions technology as consumers become more environmentally aware. There was even ‘greener’ shift in the way of more consumers choosing petrol over diesel models.
